Haven't had much time to play lately, but this was too easy to pass up:

Closer look:

Absurdly easy mod. Just carefully pry out the little rectangular clip located on the inside of the headband. This allows the bales to slide down enough to clear the stops, and rotate for storage. Rotate back and push up for usage.

I pondered several approaches to make this a workable mod. The best (imho) is to replace the plastic clip with a snap ring. This will allow the bales to slide down far enough, but not fall off

Other options considered:

Opposed notches in the plastic piece to allow only 90 degrees of rotation. Rejected due to reduction of bearing surface and creation of crack initiation site.

Removal of the metal stops: rejected because it is irreversible, and it required work!

Snap clip to allow the parts to be pulled clear off for transport: still would be cool, but I haven't found a configuration that I like yet.

Snap ring plus spring to allow the bales to be pulled down, but provide force to keep them in the factory locations. I like this the best, but I haven't devised a spring that will fit into that small cavity yet (as always, stay tuned).

If you decide to try this, please take the cups off the bales first. I get the willies when I think about people using sharp objects near their cans. Brrrrrr...(shudder)

Have fun!

hey gerG, is there anything you can't do with a pair of headphones?

also, by any chance, is that behringer below you cd player the one we were discussing about which one i should get...and the one you previously thought about selling to me. that is a nice looking EQ!!!

Zep, yep, that is the Behringer. It is on temporary assignment in my "transportable" system (that stack has only one cord, and I do move it around the house). That particular system is going to evolve some interesting capabities, if I ever get time to actually do any soldering.

The Sony V6 would require a significant mod to rotate like this. They use a flat plate rather than a pivot rod. They already fold up so compact, it would be more trouble that it is worth, I would think. It really helps more on cans with large round cups (hmmmm...) which take up a lot of space in a briefcase. Unfortunately the DT250 have a similar design to the V6, but they don't fold. Currently pondering solutions.

Man I am really bummed that nobody mentioned the connection between the blue LEDs and the CD case. I guess I am just easily amused

btw the snap clip design occurred to me last night (while I was semi-asleep). Elegant and retrofittable. Now I have to get a couple made (or interest Beyer enough to make me a handfull, dream on).

nope. the v6 uses a metal hinge to swivel and fold. you'd actually need to fabricate a new one with two degrees of freedom.
