This surprised me as well!

The question is, are these just left-over cups from before the "i" era, or are they made with the new plastic Grado have been advertising as part of the the "e" series changes ...

From the website you have 2 options :

Music Series One w/mini original - $99.00
Music Series One w/mini 2009 version - $109.99

maybe the original - $99 is the old cup version

Does anyone know if the MS1 has any venting in stock configuration? I'm considering doing the venting mod to add a little more bass presence. Most of the pictures I have seen are from SR60/80 and I wondered if the MS1 was any different

The MS1 and MS1i are not vented in their stock configuration.

Not sure about the latest MS1e, though.

I have been using an sr60 for many years. Can't say exactly how many, but it is about 10 years. They are still working, but getting a little tatty and the jack is bent. So I decided to treat myself and buy an sr225e. It is a great headphone. However as you all know the housings are now bigger and to my mind a little heavier. One of the things which I liked about the sr60 was it's low profile. After reading about the MS1 here I saw on the Alessandro website that they still supply the "low profile" version. I ordered one and it arrived today. When I bought my 225e the dealer said you can tell its an "e" series because of the red driver. The new ms1 driver is also red leading me to think that the drivers are maybe similar. After a very quick comparison of the two the 225 seems to have more impact and a deeper bass. But the sound is remarkably similar. The ms1 is more comfy. It is also super cool. Does any one else miss the old shape?

I got my MS1's a couple hours ago and they sound great to my ears and don't mind the pocket knife (I have an interest in cutlery besides headphones lol).

I'm lost: is this the "Original" or 2009 version?

That's the 'original' cup design used in the first version, usually referred to as the MS1 (equivalent to the original SR60, SR80, etc.).

The 2009 version is usually called the MS1i, and has the larger cups used in the SR60i, SR80i, etc.

Of course, since it uses the latest 'e' series drivers (as indicated by the red circles visible through the grills) it's a wierd hybrid of the 'original' MS1 and the latest MS1e ...

Thanks! I have the original from 2009, I don't know wich drivers, I'd like to keep this soundstage with the new. In some review seems that the 2009 have less soundstage and balance.
Why you bought the original?

I actually have the 2009 version (MS1i), not the original! (those pictures were not of my persona; headphones.)

Here's a better shot of the two cup styles (2009 MSi on the left left, MS1 'original' on the right):

I have the version on the left.
