I have been on the search for a while for an addition to my K501s. The MS2 seem to get a fair few votes.

If you have these or have heard these what are your impressions of them?

Also where did you get them from?

Cheers

Impressions? Hm, well i like them quite a lot. I cant really say too much though since i haven't heard many other headphones to compare. They really excel with highs (guitar, volin, most classical), and have a really tight bass. I have no complaints about the mids either. I'd say that there's no problem with the sound unless you're opposed to forward sound.

The build is nice, but grado (ie, there are imperfections in the plastic and stuff, but otherwise they feel solid).

They're obviously open, but i am still able to listen to them on busses without either disturbing other people, or having to turn them up too high. you just have to accept that you're on a bus, so enjoy the music along with the sound of the road, rather than trying to drown it completely out.

I have sony ex71, but i typicaly prefer to use MS-2 as portable, so even though they're full sized headphones, they're really not *that* big. easily fits in your bag without any problems (and is solid enough to not have to worry), or can happily sit around your neck all day.

Doesn't seem to require much amping, though people say it does benefit

the main reason i'm posting is to say where i bought it from. since you're from canberra it would likely be useful to you.

I got them from http://headphones.com.au/ (run by a headfi member). The price was good, the service was good, and it's nice to buy locally. The link to them is http://headphones.com.au/prod_one.php?productID=23#top

I have enjoyed this headphone very much. Its sound is lively and when compared to the sr-60 I've noticed a fuller bottom end. I purchased some flat pads from Todd the Vinyl Junkie and now when I listen to live concert recordings I hear tremendous bass slam coming from bass guitars and kick drums.

I purchased the MS2i from Alessandro by calling and requesting the 2-day service. The alessandro model you see on the webpage is the old model (MS2).

EDIT: My apologies; I thought you were asking about the MS2(i) model.

Where to start....

Upgrading from my dt531's about 3 months ago now in an impulse buy after seeing them for cheap when someone was selling them second hand on a local forum (ocau) i snapped them up

First initial impressions straight up was, little uncomfortable, overly bright and on the harsh side

Later that night I found the yellow flat pads in the packaging that the guy included that had been badly quarter modded (done by another member that had borrowed them, that loves to do everything ghetto) slipping these on i had another listen and quite surprised at what a change they made, removed all harshness, gave the bass an extra needed kick and they warmed up very well

The yellow flats have been my pads of choice for all my listening with them and if you intend to get these headphones get some pads as well, I also tried the c-pads but that totally destroyed the sound of them but that would have been the non-ported design giving them the boxed in and boomy muffle sound and ported ones would probably fix that

Moving on to now, and I’m loving the sound. Their vibrant and have a lot of energy about them, tight on the bass but nothing in your face or overpowering, the initial brightness is still there but I’ve become to enjoy it a bit more and it isn’t anything fatiguing and the qualities matches well with the amounts of rock I listen to

They are very open cans and have absolutely no isolation at all so a quiet background is needed if you don’t want to have to play them at high volumes

One thing I haven’t tested is running them un-amped, they have always been run from some amp and with the 6.5mm plug on the end of them makes it a bit hard to test them without an amp when you don’t have an adapter

About where to get them, seeing your in australia, headphones.com.au have them for $399 delivered and Marcus there is a top guy
