Hi,

so, how does the MS1 compare against the HA-RX700 in terms of details, bass quality/quantity and especially in the frequency response? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Well there's a huge price difference between them, HA-RX700 being $35 USD and MS1s being $100-150. I don't think it's possible to compare them other than that MS1s are probably a lot better than HA-RX700s in almost every aspect.

I only own HA-RX700 and this is just speculation, but this should still hold true when comparing a $35 item and a $135 item.

I've never seen anyone deny that the RX700s are pretty great for their price, and I haven't been able to find anything better at 35 shipped(I did a lot of searching). But as stated, the MS1s are more expensive and likely the all around better head phone. But then again, many seem to swear by their RX700s. I'm loving my RX700s unamped through my lappy's sound card though. Nowhere near the Senn's 650 I tried, but I've rarely been this happy spending 35 bucks XD. They also get wayyy better with a lot of burn-in. Very balanced imo, there doesn't seem to be too big an emphasis on any range. Also, they're closed(kind of) while the MS1s are open.

Out of curiosity, why are you comparing these 2 headphones anyways?

Thanks for your statement.

I am comparing them because I own a RX700 and I am thinking about upgrading it to fit more rock and soft rock style music.

Ahh that makes things more clear. I think more people can help if you state that you want a rock type phone. Though, personally I find the RX700s to be pretty awesome for rock.

Have you performed the felt mod? While you find an upgrade, the felt mod really opened up the mids and highs for me, which made my rock tracks sound much better. It's quite easy and safe.

MS-1 are great with all kinds of music. They shine with acoustic, soft rock type even more. As you can see in my signature, I also own the RX700. They have good isolation when I need it and more bass compared to the Alessandro. The sound quality isn't bad, it's just not on the same level as the MS-1. But if you consider the price to performance ratio, the RX700 is a great value.

You're either going to love it or hate it when you upgrade. I can suggest a cheaper approach: try out the KSC75, I had them before every other headphone I own (MS-1 included). The Koss are similar in sound signature to the MS-1. That way, you can figure out if you should switch to these particular headphones. Or, if you've got the cash and itching for instant gratification, then go ahead and buy the MS-1. Their resale value is pretty good, so you can always get your money back.

Hope that helps.

I own the RX900 (partial mods) and I've owned the SR80 (which is similar to the MS1). Grado wins hands-down, and not just for rock.

I agree with the KSC75 suggestion; they have a similar signature to Grados but with recessed mids.
