Hi,

at the moment I've got some headphones from different manufacturers (HD800, HD650, HD600, HD595, HD555, HD565, HD545, AH-D2000, AH-D7000, K701, K601, DT990 05, DT880 03, DT770 PRO and soon the T1) , but I never owned a pair of American cans. (I've already listened to the GS1000 and PS1, but never owned them.)

Now I'm willing to change this and want buy some American "beginner" cans. So this means they will be the cheapest ones I can get. Just for fun.

For this purpose I'd like to know whether you can recommend me the Grado RS60i or the Alessandro MS1? I can get both for the same price, shipping included that means to be about 100 EUR, but it's easier for me to get the SR60i, cause I can import them from the UK without customs, while the MS1 have to be imported from the US and that will take a longer time and may cause some "problems" with the German customs.

Well, the Grado/Alessandro cans really look like cheap crap and this was, why I've stayed away from them until now.

Oh, I forgot to mention something:
I only want to hear stuff like Aerosmith with it. (Well, I think it will only be Aerosmith, cause it's the only band I can stand.) For classical music and moive scores I've got the other cans.

So please can you give me a recommendation?!

Or is it worth to spend more money on the SR80i, SR125i, SR225i or even the SR325i for Aerosmith [& Co.]? Or do you think maybe it's no good idea to get some of these Grado/Alessandro cans because of the cans I already own?

Thank you very much for your reply and help!

MS1. I keep on reading that they are based on SR125(i) drivers. If you can't stand them anymore buy some other pads for them (bowls or HD414 pads) and after that you can mod them into an MS1000.

Wait, Aerosmith is the only band you can stand? Why do you need a headphone for this? Heck, why do you need 15 pairs when you have the Holy Grail? If you want, I'd be glad to take some of those off your hands.

Don't get me wrong. I just want to find out how these "low-end" Grado/Alessandro cans sound with Aerosmith and simply need a decision which one to buy... so ketchup or cat soup...

Btw. some Aerosmith recordings are so bad sounding by using even a mid-fi headphone... I just hope to get a new experience from these cheap Grados/Alessandros.

If someone just could describe which of these Grados/Alessandros sounds more direct, "hardrock-like" and is preferable even with bad Aerosmith recordings which I can't stand on my HD800.

So far I'd go for the MS1i. Or will the SR60i better for my purpose?

I have an Aerosmith CD with me.
"Crazy" and "Amazing" songs sound great with my Grado SR60 with the PA2V2 of course for better bass.
I think if your in a budget, SR60 will be the key headphone.
Thank you.

The MS1i's are excellent value for the money, and I think that you would thoroughly enjoy them.

Afterwards, you could mod them, turning them into "MS1000's", or, try what I've done (glue two pairs of bowl pads back-to-back, and then put them onto your headphones, reversed).
