AL iM716 Maintenance

I bought my Altec Lansing IM716 headphones a couple years ago and they have gotten pretty run down. THe bottom part of the cable is cracked in many places and needs replacement, the connector itself must be aligned perfectly on the player and cuts in and out. One of my filters got dirty and so I ripped it out without replacement. The Tritips are also worn down and often get stuck in my ears when I pull the headphones out.

I had removed the volume pod earlier and replaced it with a 68ohm resister on each line.

Now I bought a Palm Pre and the included headphones have an inline mic, so I would like to frankenstein them to my IM716s to replace the frayed cable and broken jack, and add a mic at the same time. I am not sure how to go about fixing the other problems though, where do I get replacement tips/filters for them?

Is it even worth it to try and maintain them or are there better IEMs out right now that would cost less than the parts needed?

I believe the etymotic filters show here fits the IM716. I remember reading it here somewhere, you can try do a search to make sure. They also have a 3-flange tips that looks very much like the Im716.

I have an im616 and see there haven't a place for mic to take control. I admire ur opinion to diy ur im716, but can that really work is the question.

No reason why they cant. The mic on the Palm Pre headphones has L/R outputs only, so I just need to hook those up to the resistors.

Thanks for the link to ER. The problem with them is that they are selling me a lot more than I need. I only need one pair of tips, and only one pair of filters. With shipping it would end up costing $30 just to buy those two things.

sorry to bump this thread, but I lost my im716's cleaning tool etc..will the ety's cleaning tools work?
