My husband brought back Akiko Suwanai's new release of Bach Violin Concertos from Japan. This was the first time I had ever heard one of her recordings and it is outstanding. She plays a violin formerly owned by Heifetz (the Dolphin Stradivarius, loaned to her by a Japanese foundation), and was the youngest winner of the Tchaikovsky competition. I am surprised that I haven't found any mention of her in this forum and hoped that some of the members would have more information about her earlier recordings.
Now I have her other recordings ordered, including her Dvorák violin concerto, Bruch, etc. She is, to borrow Tyson's phrase, "the real deal."
