AKG's New Flagship IEM - N5005

As an all-rounder, the package is definitely worth the $199-$299 asking price if you can get a proper fit. Sadly, after a handful of tips tried I can only get a proper seal with Complys which changes the treble response considerably. My main gripe though would be that it uses the older Knowles BAs, wherein they rattle at high volumes hence a weakness with power handling. Pretty sure I'm not the only one who noticed this compared to the BAs of today.
I've certainly never noticed any rattling. Maybe I'm not playing them loudly enough...?
The best tips I've found are the silicone ones that came with my PFE 232 iems way back when. They are thicker and maybe a little stretchier than most tips. I've been told that JVC EP-FX10 Spiral Dot ++ tips are similar as well as stock Dunu tips, but I haven't tried either one. I have a couple pairs of Phonak tips that are serving me well.

I have been through several tips, Final E Types, Spinfit 100+ and 145, k3003 tips and few others. All of them worked BUT, I got a set of Radius Deep Mount tips and BLAM! Best fit I have had on the n5005s. Been listening to them for the last week and these tips ROCK!

N5005 has the most beautiful mids and sound of any iem I've heard but insertion and tips for me are critical or else vocals get harsh, so I understand the mixed reviews. Get them right though and they are amazing. And that's coming from using Susvaras on my end game setup daily. If I'm feeling lazy and don't want to turn and uv everything in after work I find perfect contentment with n5005

Hello,

I've received the N5005 recently.

First impressions are excellent, with great tone and timber. I don't quite get what the plastic treble is about as the sound propper. I can say that they convey much more transparency and translate how the album was mastered, as I can hear more harsh treble on different albums than others. So I can conclude that's the way they were recorded and not the iem.

About the fit, I tried it as it comes and so far it has worked for me. Tried some of the tips that come in the package but returned to the original. Also have not messed too much with the filters or the cables, just used the 2.5 with Fiio's BTR5.

Overall satisfied, especially at 299$ I wish they were more open though.

Best

I noticed after a while they opened up for me, with complys tx200 they have very natural never fatiguing vocals, beautiful imaging and a nice open stage, not as big a Xelento but still just enough for me

Agreed. They take some time to open up.

I'll wait and hear.

I really don't know nor believe too much in burn in. That's a topic I'm not to familiar with but know that a lot swear by.

In my experience all of my iem sound the same for day one.
Another piece of the 5005 pie are the filters. I started with the reference and then tried the others. I ended up running the mid-high as my daily.

Since I travel and generally don't like foam, I bought these Symbio W ear tips for some isolation. They work really well.

You all are going to roast me, and I probably deserve it, but I’m finding this tip configuration surprisingly effective for the sometimes wonky fit. Lol.

Hi dawning, you're going to need to slow down a bit...

Has anyone else had any issues with the cable connection on their N5005? I repeatedly have the right channel cutting out. I've tried detaching and reattaching but it doesn't help. Visually it looks fine...at least I see nothing wrong. I am going to try the balanced cable but I'm waiting on a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter. Any tips?

I've seen someone in classified selling the mmcx to 2pin converter for N5005. If other cable works, maybe it will let you use normal 2pin cables. Here's the link to the classified, but not sure if it's been sold or not
