The choice of phones depends more on your musical preference than on the amp in this case.
X-can V3 drives both phones very well. Rolling tubes allows you to fine tune the sound even more to your taste and to better match the phones you choose.

The first thing that comes to my mind is that it must be to bright to use grado sr325 and silver interconects with the X-can v3, from my experience the stock x-can is quite bright and supposed to mach 650 very well but I havent tested so many amps, but I think it is to bright at some points with 595. But I tested the 701 out of x-can once and I thought it was absolutely wonderfull.

x2.....tell us what kind of music you listen to and what kind of headphone you want (ie, do you like speakerlike with big soundstage, or fast and hard rocking)? If you don't have an idea what you're looking for, you'll be one of the many on here doing upgrades, sidegrades, downgrades, repeat buys, and more upgrades

Between the two the K-701 would be the safer choice as it is a neutrally balanced with a wide soundstage able to present details, where as the Grados are more of a specific presentation (a love it or hate it) of forwardness on stage presentation (meaning little or no soundstage) wonderful for Rock, but can be overwhelmingly aggresive as an all rounder.

Seeing as how your I/Cs also will be biased to this brighter tone, ergo my recommendation for the K-701s as a more neutral first High End Headphone all-rounder, with the promise of excellent reproduction for you.

Good luck~

I listen mostly to jazz, classic rock, some vocals, and sometimes even to classical music. I have heard some akgs including the k1000(hopefully i'll acquire one next month) and liked them all.
Never really heard the k701 or the grado 325i because both fones are not available in riyadh, saudi arabia.
I have previously used several ss and tube amps including a 300b amp/sonus spkrs. So i prefer fones with some decent staging/3d imaging. At the same time i'm an amateur musician.
Will be buying online by just basing on reviews. I'm just hoping i'll get it right the first time. I know i should audition both fones in my own amp/source/interconnects first before buying. But what to do in a situation where the choices are acquiring fones now based on sheer faith or wait for a year until i can visit another country where i can audition several fones/amp combo. Tough luck!

For your music I would definitely advise K701 over the Grados.
And don't worry, the X-can v3 can drive the K701 without the slightest problem.
