hi. first post there, though i've been reading and using head fi (and to a lesser extent headwize) as a resource for a month or so now. figured i might as well finally say something
smily_headphones1.gif
.

anyways, on to the posting and whatnot. after falling further and further into the headphone/audio thing recently (initiated first by a pair of 457's, and then sr-60's), I decided after a fair amount of looking around and pondering to pick up the akg 141s. fit my price range, and considering that i dont have an amp yet, looked good.

initially, the things felt like clamps on my head. however, given their newness (and pleasing sound), i decided to give them a while. ive been using them for about a month now with my maudio revo and portable gear, and jesus tapdancing christ, after wearing them longer than usual tonight, i swear they're trying to kill me by slowly crushing my head. their sound and neat-lookiness have grown on me considerably, so im somewhat reluctant to sell them. but wearing them for more than an hour is _torture_.

anyone else out there have these phones and have similar problems? i dont really have an unusually shaped head or funky ears, so it stands to reason that maybe im not the only one. im probably going out on a limb here, but maybe someone more seasoned than myself has come up with some sort of anti 141 skull damage mod?
eh, worth a shot anyways.

so, if nothing else comes from this thread, if anyone is looking into the new studio series from akg, my advice would be to go with the circumaural 'phones in the line. ive tried bending these things, messing with the damn pads, everything i can think of...damn things are too sturdy. worst headphone experience ever, as much as i enjoy the sound (very pleasing lower end, a little warm but nothing excessive...at least to my ears)

anyways, thanks for reading

Hi noiseunit.

I have a pair of about 10 year old AKG 141's. And I have to say I never had the problem that you are describing.

But I don't know if I just have a small head or the old 141's are different than the new ones...

You might try to strech them, by putting a few books between the earpieces for a few days or so.

But your problem is strange given the self adjusting headband of the AKG's. I always found them more on the loose side to wear... They have srews in the headband, where you can give the "strings" of the headband more lenghts. Or shorten it if they are to loose...

Hope this helps to some degree.

I have the AKG-K141S(55-Ohms). I like them a lot. Very comfortable, light, easy to drive and great sound.

Also; any of the latest AKG Studio Phones are great; 240S, 271S and 171S.

thanks for the effort lukas...i figured it was a little weird that they hurt so much, not surprised to see others find them comfortable. from what ive seen, the old 141 dont look too much different..and going over the construction of the 141s, i see no reason for the comfort issues. i'll spend some more time with them and see if i can poke around with the headband some more. i guess its just an issue with my head, thoough im not sure thats a good thing

magic, as you can probably tell i agree about the sound coming out of the 141s, but its interesting; some music sounds amazing through them, some i would just rather listen to through something else. i find the highs to be a bit distant sometimes, but really enjoy the midrange and low end. also, the open, airy feel they have is great. however, im still relatively new to this, so my critical listening skills are not very well-rounded yet. been listening to a lotta jazz through them lately (mingus, armstrong), and they sound _wonderful_ to my ears. anyways, i would love to hear your take (or anyone else's) on their sound, what you like/dont like, if nothing else for comparing experiences. always interesting to get other opinions

Hi people this is my first post, I have a set of these the mark 2's  I have found that they do have certain vice like characteristics over time.  Love the sound though and really noticed a difference after they had burnt in (didn't like the sound at first)  I bought a fiio e10 and straight away upgraded my spotify to get best bit rate!

Now I want to make a new cable for them but it is somewhat of a mindfield!!

I think once I have my source tt sorted and my budget allows I would plump for some 702's based on the sound of these
