Hey, guys. I'm still shopping for headphones... I'm looking for something with good bass and an enjoyable, clear sound. I listen to electronic/techno/rock. Is AKG a good choice, or should I look elsewhere?

What your source is will be as important as the headphones themselves. AKG, IMO are quite neutral and so, particularly with my neutral MF amp, there is loads of bass detail, but not the oomph you may be looking for with techno and rock. I get bass, if the original recording had it.

Sennheiser make specific headphones that major on bass. For example the HD202 is tuned for extra bass over the very simlilar HD201s. My PMX200s are tuned for extra bass. The other brand that majors in bass IMO, is Denon with the AH D1001s being the most bass heavy headphones I have heard straight out of an ipod Nano.

You need to choose whether you want bass detail to hear the original recording and clear bass notes, or bass depth and add oomph and deep, driving bass notes to the music.

For serious, kickin' bass you should check out the Denon line - the D7000/5000/2000. All have much more bass punch than the top of the line AKGs (701s and 601s) can muster.

Thanks, guys! This sounds on par with what I've read... To answer your question, I would like driving bass with some 'oomph', but I would like clarity as well. I would go for the AH-D1001s if they weren't so boring-looking.

I think Audio Technica ES7 would be great for those needs. They have a very fun, hard hitting bass and surprisingly clear sound throughout the spectrum... and are second to none as far as the looks go.

The ES7s were on my list for a while... Some people say they're uncomfortable, though. Also, circumaurl earpads are important to me. Given this, are they still worth it?

K 19, I see you own two FiiO amps... would you recommend these with the ES7s or Denons?

I have the FiiO E5 and with a LOD from the ipods docking port it gives all my headphones a real boost to the music giving it more life.

I would love a pair of K701s... Sadly, they're out of my price range.
