AKG - Quincy Jones Signature Series Q701 vs. Grado 325i

Between the Grado and AKG sound, which is closer to the Martin Logan's with the folded tweeter design?

And, perhaps the biggest question:  Which between the AKGs and Grados is the most opposite from my HD650 in sound, and how?

Just my opinion..................
I have Martin Logans................I'm going to say Beyer DT880................sorry it isn't Grado or AKG!

More sub bass then the K-702 will be to much bass coloration for me. but the old RS1 and the K-702 are perfect together.

Hmm, I think my definition of sub-bass must be a lot different than yours.

Well here's a sub-bass curveball ~ best headphone for sub bass I've heard?

The yet to be released Ultrasone Signature Pro ~ it's not fantastic for much else, but there's
deep seated grumble on that headphone with well known tracks I'd never heard before.

Is it as deep as the D7000 or LCD-? or HiFi Man whichever?

So far the D7000 has eluded me, and I've only briefly listened to the D2000 and D5000 in meet conditions ~ they're not all that common
down here ~ I think it goes deep if not deeper than the LCD-2 rev2 though ~ easily a very good match, it almost seems surreal and
exaggerated in that sub bass area , but again I could see so many dub reggae, dub step etc fans loving this amount of sub bass.

If I was a reggae and dance hall fan I'd be saving up for them starting..now!

Okay, auditioned the SR325i and I didn't really like them.  I liked some of the added detail with percussion and in general, however, the sibilance and lack of bottom end didn't satisfy me.  I did like their aggressiveness.

With this in mind, could the AKG Q701 be a viable option?

As much as I love the Q701, keep in mind that they do not offer a ton of bottom end. Sufficient, for sure, but you will not get really powerful bass unless the recording has a strong bass emphasis.

I love so much about the Q701, but I plan on looking at some of the $900+ headphones in the future to try to find something similar but closer to the impossible, "perfect".

Hey, you have a very similar PC as source setup as me.... so you could really give me some great advice!  What other cans have you heard through your current computer as source setup?

I would agree with what other folks are saying here:
If you don't like the sibilance and lack of bass in SR-325s, you're not going to like Q701s. You might what to try other Grados: 225 and lower....125, 80 and 60 but basically they all sound fairly similar. The 80s and 60 are phenomenal value for the money.

Try Beyer DT990 (some nice bass and treble boost) or try Beyer DT880 (basically a neutral 'phone, flat FR).

I don't know about the DT990/600. I auditioned a pair for a few days and found them to have MUCH MUCH more sibilance than the Q701. They also made a lot of recordings sound a bit thin. Mainly distorted guitars.

Try out a pair of DT880s!

I have a pair of Q701 and DT880.
IMHO the DT880 really are flatter than Q701.
OTOH I also think Grados are GREAT Rock headphones and sound great with distorted guitars..........just my opinion.
YMMV.

Thanks for the suggestion. I would be grabbing a pair of DT880/600s if I weren't thinking about going straight for the T1.

How is the 880 on bass compared to the Q701?

I think the DT880 is a more balanced can than the Q701, less treble and more bass than the Q701, nice midrange. Neutral, neutral, neutral.
But I still like the Q701s for really well recorded music!
