800$ for a new one sounds like a joke.
For me HD800, K812 and LCD-X are on the same level differ only by its sound signature.

Ha. No.

Measurements are not that important ! You cannot hear this kind of distortion on the very low end of the frequency area.
Trust your own ears.

I had two HD800 (older and newer serial number) , two LCD-X and one K812 and at the end I kept the K812.

As the matter of fact, I can and I do hear the treble tizzyness which may or may not due to its high treble distortion. Selling mine as we speak as I think the HD800's treble sounds much cleaner.

I bought the K812 with that mindset: Don't trust measurements, trust my own ears! Lesson learned: Do not overlook measurements when buying headphones..

HaHa ... Yes

The HD800 is maybe technically a little bit better than the K812 but overall (sound) the K812 is a liitle bit better for me.

It's quite a bit better technicallly actually.

Still liking its sound is valid though, can't be denied. I liked the K812's sound and would get one again albeit only when quite cheaper. Won't happen though as i only stay with 2 TOTL max.

Yes, treble is a bit unclean... still I like the K812. Yes, I would prefer if it would measure better... but I enjoy music more than with the HD800, so that is that.

What I don't get though is the recent increase in price here in Europe...

Do bad recordings sound as bad on the K812 as on the HD800 or are they more forgiving?

To me the K812 is a little bit more forgiving, but with treble-happy bad recordings the K812's treble tizzyness becomes very apparent and thus making it even worse than the HD800.

Actually, even the measurement of K712/7xx are much better than the Akg K812's. But the K812 sound much better. I myself have the HD800, K702AE and K812. And even though on paper the K812 are worst, in my opinion they're the best.

"the k812 is very very transparent, reveals all the tizziness in yor setup/test equipt...
without sacrificing the life in the vocals.  "

this tot is forming in my head,  jus a suspicion,
need to swap around my setups for further listening..
cant imagine AKGdesigners screwed up  their TOTL can.. :)

( up for debate.  Fire away...but dun fire at me. :p )

Tyll Hertsen's summary of the K812 (full review here http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/akg-k812-professional-reference-headphone)

 Summary
The open, spacious, musical presentation of the AKG K812 is truly world-class with music that has a simple, mellow treble. But when the music has a complex treble, it's harsh uncontrolled frequency response between 3kHz and 10kHz reveals itself as a fatal flaw to my ears. Many will perceive them as simply highly detailed, and many will disagree with my take by putting more weight on the beautifully musical and spacious aspects of the K812. But I find them artificially bright compared to the true high-frequency resolution of the Sennheiser HD 800, which I warm up with careful component matching and EQ if I feel the need.

If you don't mind, may I ask why do you use O2 & ODAC to power the K812?

Answer: why not ?

I don't believe that much in amp/DAC sound. I compared O2 with Bryston BHA-1 and I was not able to hear any difference.
But nonetheless I will upgrade my stuff with the new ifi iDSD Pro.
