AKG K702 Sound Crap?

I agree! The DT770 with electronica is bliss. But I use the 880 for everything. So much so, I'm thinking of getting rid of my HD600 and 650. They sound dull to me in comparison and I can't get into them anymore.

What version of the 770 do you have? The i version is $99 on amazon right now. Tempting...

I have the 250ohm version. It's my personal favorite. I've always been a huge beyer guy and I've owned nearly ever pair of headphones they've ever made. The 32 and 80 ohm versions are bassier but they lack midrange to my ears. The 250 retains the nice low end, it's a little cleaned up and the midrange is more prominent.

I've never heard the "i" version but have only heard less than positive remarks.

Also: here's a quick tip.

If you ever get a pair of beyers that come with gray velour pads, 770's, 880 etc, and you want more low end and a slightly more tame treble response, switch out the gray velour pads for the black velour pads.

Thanks... Makes sense. I have no need for something that easy to drive at the expense of SQ.

If anybody ever has beyer-specific questions, I don't work for them but as a customer I'm probably their biggest fan. Please just send me a private message! :)

I personally have never liked vinyl pads on 770's. They make it sound... plasticky? There isn't a word for what it does to my ears, but I'd rather stab my ears than subject them to that.

Got the amp now I listened to some songs again and must say that the amp definitely improved it alot. Sounds much cleaner now. Better highs and less bass.
Sound pretty similar to the Turtle Beach now. Maybe a bit better.
Though I think if I get the DT880 I would enjoy it a bit more. Do they have more bass too? I think its just a bit lacking now, not much though.

Agreed. Nobody gets the k line for bass. Soundstage and detail.

I can recommend the Audio Technica AD1000x and Beyerdynamic DT 150 + DT 100 velour pads.

AD1000x has extremely clear highs and very forward vocals, and less than neutral bass. The DT 150 with the DT 100 velour pads also has forward vocals, but a bit smoother highs and more bass response.

The DT 150 als sounds extremely realistic.

Just one quick question before I get the other ones. Do they have the sibilance sound in voices? It seems a bit too sensitive on the K702 for me.
Is this happening on multiple tracks/albums? It may smooth out over time.
