i just received my pair of akg k702 from the usa,and when i plug it into my pc,im surprised to hear that the bass was terrible.im new to these high end headphones so im wondering if this is normal as it takes time for it to burn in or is there something wrong with the headphones?i am planning to get an amp soon but im also wondering is this because that the headphones are underpowered?

Define "terrible." You mean quite light in the quantity of bass? If so,you should have read more about them prior to purchasing them.

EDIT: And if you're driving them out of the sound card alone, that's even worse. Again, if you had read about them beforehand, you would see what kind of equipment it would take to properly drive them.

terrible as in really cracking and distorted, totally sounds wrong.but where else with songs without the strong basses, its pretty alright.i guess i didnt read enough.yea im driving it directly out of my pc sound card.i didnt know that my sound card isn't powerful enough to drive them.so i will be getting an amp to go with it as i have enquired ibasso about which amp suitable for it,they recommended the P3+.

If you just received them then return them and buy something else. Do yourself that favor. Don't mess around with all that burn in crap and blah blah blah, that is how they sound and if you keep them you will have wasted your money.

Just looking out for you.

The OP didn't say anything but disliking the sound signature of the K702. Some people do prefer their sound ya know?

I have to agree with you, this time.

If the case is you have NO dedicated headphone amp that's worth anything and your source is a generic PC soundcard, you're better off getting other cans...

My k701 sounds horrible out of my PC and the volume is often to low to half enjoy it at all. I listen to them only through my headamp.

AKG K702 bass problem. <~~NAME OF THE THREAD,,!!!

Its not possible for you to be so dense that you would leed a newbie to believe that his 702 headphones will work with his sound card are you?

That is so selfish to put him in a ditch like that to protect the rep of a headphone.

You have two options:

1) Walk down the path of head-fi: get amp, then dedicated DAC, then inter-connects, then recabling, then balancing... the list goes on. After hundreds, most likely thousands, of dollars, you may enjoy audio bliss.

2) Pick up less fickle headphones that can be driven by your sound card. Denon D2000 perhaps? It's in the same price range. Ignorance is bliss? Ignorance also saves a lot of money.

For the past few days I've listened to my K702s driven by a cheap Soundblaster and they sound fine. Not ideal, but no odd distortion.
