Dear all,

Don't know about you guys but I have some thoughts that AKG have some conspiracy with "difficulties" of delivery. Let be honest. If you a big company like AKG / Harman and you just put the new product on the market. Would you be so disorganized about the whole thing? NO WAY. They make this only to keep the price HIGH as long its possible. I don't see any other reasons about this situation. Believe me, when they make a big mistake on this one. Because when this will be over, I believe very soon, then the price of K701 will drop dramatically. I think around EUR 200 for sure, and they know this as no others. So they make people pre order them for like EUR 350-399 and keep them wait and wait and wait. What is going on?!?!
I have called Harman Netherlands several time and they still don't know when they will be able to deliver in Holland wide, but you can order from them directly for like EUR 399. COME ON, LAYERS!!!!
Sorry guys just don't believe in this story….

I think they are really a bit overwhelmed by the demand, they just underestimated the market for relatively expensive cans that are hyped on the forums.
Besides of that : same as it ever was.
When the Senn HD 650 was new it costed about 350 Euros, now you can get it for about 200.
Same phenomenon for the Sony MDR-SA 5000 and others.
The K701 is already offered for 290 (backordered though, not in stock), and surely within 18 months the price will be down to about 200.
Early adopters have to pay the premium prize, that's all.
You'd just have to wait.
OTOH life is so short ...........

Is this your own conspiracy theory? It's inevitable that the price will drop like a stone once everyone starts having a pair of the own.

Nah, I have no X-Box. But the similarity of availability vs demand is there.

No, I just read it somewhere... this is not like been so frustrating about the price, not at all. The whole situation. I mean how long are you going to ignore the problem. The promotion of this one is failed. I cant have any hearing sessions anyway in Rotterdam. Many stores have dump the whole old line of AKG, only K501 is available on request. The online shops in Netherlands don't have an return policy at all, only official Grado dealer is, so far I know.
So after all that, what do you expect me to say.

Cant agree with you. From my conversations with customer service I didn't hear a thing about how overwhelmed they were. It was exactly different from that. They were hoping that after they had an promotion exhibition that order will be coming, how about that. And another thing, they say like those phones are very expensive so not every store can have them in stock, what a nonsense!

Boy, this is a strange day on this forum.

I log in this morning and this is one of several very...atypical for Hi-Fi threads that I've seen.

Interestingly enough, they're all 701 related threads.

What gives? Something in the water this morning?

I doubt that AKG is intentionally limiting production or distribution of the K701. Potential buyers may become frustrated with waiting and decide not to buy it, even when it eventually becomes available. Every non-purchase right now due to unavailability is non-revenue for them.

Most companies wouldn't risk annoying potential customers, especially with a non-limited edition product.
