Hey all,

I just got the K701, so I now completed the mid-hi holy trinity (650, 880s and 701s). But when I opened the AKG I was kind of disappointed by the build quality of the AKGs when compared to the sennheisers and Beyers. It looks like those 2 elastics keeping the headband down can snap at anytime. Other then that, I'm pretty happy they arrived, but will have to wait a couple of days to compare them because my Amp is at my other place.

Just wondering if anyone experienced K701s falling apart? They seem quite fragile. Also is there a way to adjust the headband without putting strain on the elastics?

Thanks in advance.

I know what you mean about the elastics. They look fragile, but I own two of these great cans and there are no issues I have run into with them regarding build quality. When one of those elastics goes, I wonder what the fix is? Anyway, enjoy your 701 and please take the time to burn them in properly before you make any judgements on SQ. They pair well with Heed Canamp or Woo Audio tubes, both of which I own and use daily.
Good luck! And enjoy...

they are made in they same basic design as my 30+ year old K240 Sextet, which I did need to replace the elastics . . . . . . . . .once . . . in 30+ years . . . .
I'm pretty satisfied

my k701 has had no sign of issues and it is one of the early ones

I sold my k701 about a month ago, but from what I remember, k701s have huge soundstage and sound so airy, more pronounce high as compare to my HD650...

I admitted that I miss it.

i think the build quality of the k701 is quite good. better than the dt880 which all around seems kind of flimsy. the newer model is a little more substantial than the 2003 though.

I watch old movies om TCM with my 701s, fall asleep on them and it's no problem. They're beyond tough. BTW I was in love with my 580/650 cable/Beyer Leather head pad combo and put my neglected 701's on and found pure bliss.

It's just creepy how 701's mimic real speakers.

They look fragile, and they feel light (I was surprised by this as well in comparison with my Senns) but I've never had a problem with them and I believe they are quite sturdy. I have also never heard of anyone having any sorts of build-quality durability complaints either, other than the rash of "it creaks too much" complaints that went on a while back. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Enjoy.
