Hello everyone,
I want to buy a new sound card and a new headphone. I thought the Auzentech X-Fi Forte 7.1 and the AKG k601. The sound card will be more dedicated to video game and film, hence my choice.
But I'm wondering if the headphone can be drived by this sound card

Thank you in advance for your answers

bluework, I'm new here, but I've got about 130 hours on my 601s and I dont think your soundcard will have enough juice to drive the 601s. My CA integrated amp does a good job amping them, but I usually drive them from the headamp connected via optical to my computer - to get the same volume from my MS-1 or ES7 cans in the higher impedance 601s requires quite a few increments on the headamp volume control.

Like you, I jumped in at the deep end - my advice is to try easier to drive cans from people like Audio-Technica, Grado or similar. Personally, whatever the pluses of higher end cans with high impedance, I can live without the need to spend 200 hours on burn-in and untold dollars on the 'right' kit, but I realise that I will be in the minority on head-fi. I am persevering with the 601s simply so that I can respond when someone posts that Jesus spoke to him through his AKGs at hour 201 ....

Hope this helps,
estreeter

The AKG K601 needs a fair amount of power to deliver what I personally consider normal listening levels for games, movies and music.
I've tried mine straight out of my iPod as well as plugged into the headphone jack on the Creative GigaWorks T20 speakers I have connected to my no doubt rather crappy on-board sound chip, and both fell short of pushing the K601 to the volume level I typically use in my main setup with a headphone amp (and for some DVDs and Blu-ray movies I actually have to set my amp to high gain to get the volume I tend to like in action movies. Game and music volume out of the PS3 is typically much louder than movies though, so I don't need to crank up the amp nearly as much).

Someone else mentioned recently that he found the volume level straight out of an iPod more than loud enough though, so it's a matter of what you're used to and expect of course, but I believe there's general agreement that the K601 are generally fairly hard to drive in terms of volume.
