Hi,

I'm looking for a headphone upgrade and the AKG K601 seems great for my need, but they required an amp, which I don't have.

The source will probably only be my sblive front panel or directly from the card, so it does not need to be portable. It would be a +, but definitively required to be able to take power from a wall wart or something else.

Any idea what would suit me best at the lowest price, because budget is very limited.

Thanks !

I think a little Dot II++ would work very well, nice tube characteristics to add character to the already-involved signature of the headphones

They should be going ont he cheap now due to the rise of LDMK series I believe

The little Dot II++ is out of my price range. I am looking for under 100$.

I use a $55 Cmoy from ebay for my K601 and it works great. Bought the premium one by the seller biosciencegeek, with DC jack. Other amps to consider would be PA2V2 and the go-vibe 5 or 6. From your internal soundcard, there might be some slight hiss when you pump up the volume. But, you'll have plenty of time to upgrade.

I have made a CMOY myself, but I don't like the sound. With my MS1, the base get really bad when there is some.

Go vibe 5 has an interesting price. Any other advices ?

The thing with the pa2v2 is that it's really made for portable audio, so go vibe 5 layout seems a little bit better to put on my desktop.
