Hey guys!
I work for an electronics distributor to the RV/motorhome industry. Our partners include brands such as: Samsung, Sony, Bose, Harman, JBL, Pioneer, etc. Because of this I have a pretty good depth of knowledge in consumer electronics as a whole.
My starter headphone purchases were ATH-M50X and then got a great deal on AKG K545. I can get a great deal on anything made by a Harman brand but for now am happy with the headphones. My question kind of comes in two parts.
1. I just got a Microsoft Surface Book and am looking for a setup to start ripping, purchasing, and playing high resolution audio. So, I'm trying to decide if using HDTracks and a combination of ripping CDs I owned is the best way to begin. I understand that EAC, JRiver, and possibly WMP 12 are all viable candidates for accomplishing this goal. Any pointers on the software side and how to begin gathering tracks? I have access to loads of purchased CDs. My dad used to own a record store and has a whole room full of vinyl, but I'm not interested in attempting to digitize any of this at the moment. Also, say I want to bring some music with me vs. bringing the computer. I have a Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 but no Pono. Should I purchase a Sony hi-res walkman if I can get a discount?
2. The headphones mentioned above are good enough for me at this juncture. But just about everything I plug them into doesn't give me enough volume, AKA they don't bang. I'm not trying to willfully ruin my hearing but I want to be able to crank them up as currently I'm not pushing anywhere near what they can handle. So am I looking for a Dragonfly v1.2 to pair with my surface book? Can this also work with one of my nexus devices via USB OTG? Or am I better off with Fiio or Schiit? Money is not a huge concern but as you can tell my desires don't match up to $500 dollar DACs and $500 amplifiers.
I like to live portable and don't have a real desk at my home where I do most of my listening. I can definitely find a space for a Schiit stack but don't know if that is right for me.
Thanks for any help or feedback!
