i own a pair of AKG K501s. i noticed that my left pad was loose, so i took it off. i then became curious and decided to take off my other pad to see what they sounded like without pads. i then went to put them back on and after 45 minutes of tinkering got it. now my pads come undone and i have to put them back on all the time. just about everytime i take them off or pick them up these pads fall off. i'm pretty darn sure that i'm putting them on the phones properly, but they just won't stay put. WHY?

The pads might seem to be in place when you put them on again, even if they are not. It is quite easy to get them to a position where they feel to be locked in place, but in fact you need to push them a bit further. It feel a bit as if the pads jump into place when you increase the pressure, and passes a locking mechanism. When you do that, there is no way that they fall off.
