AKG K500 - Right side dead - cable or driver???

After reading this forum over the last week or so I got nostalgic for my old K500's which my son absconded ...er .... borrowed.
I assembled a swat team and retrieved them only to find the right driver not working.

I would normally assume the cable but I was wondering if it was common for these drivers to break.

Since the miniplug is not easily disassembled I thought it best to check with the collective brain trust here before whipping out the soldering iron.

I got impatient and decided to dive in.
Fitz posted some pics of disassembled 500's in an old thread. Armed with that info I opened them up and sitting right there was a little red wire no longer attached to anything.

Now it is and problem solved.

I have the same problem. I haven't tackled it yet because I have a K400 and K401. The service manual is on AKG's website http://www.akg.com/mediendatenbank2/...5d21891b68.pdf

I posted pics of a disassembled K500? I don't even remember doing that.

The thread in which you were describing the oddball 500's (501's?) that had a different wiring scheme ........

Those pics showed enough info for me to not screw them up while taking them apart.
