Well denon d2000 was reccomended for my roommate and want to know what people think between the k272 and the d2000. He is upgrading from Sennheisser HD555.

if isolation is important i think the k272hd are better. I have not heard the denons but from what i have read they are not good at attenuating noise. Does your roommate have an amp? The AKGs sound ok straight out of a computer but I would definitely recommend an amp. Straight out of an ipod is similar, you really need an amp. Im not sure about the denons but I think there are some people here that run them without an amp. Maybe someone has listened to both and can comment further.

K272 has a better build, sound and isolation then the D2000....
Both will benefit from an amp, but there are enough Headfi-ers using both without an amp to their satisfaction.

Hello,
I am new to the world of head-fi and high quality headphones
smily_headphones1.gif
and as I am currently in the search of my first set of cans, I had a similar question. Only mine also threw Audio Technica's A900 into the mix.

Another little Q is whether there is a HUGE advantage going to the K 271 MKII over the K 272 HD.

Also the Zune is Microsoft's answer to the ipod.

Thanks alot guys!

I have had the AT's and the AKG's and I found the AT ATH-A900's to be better than the 272's in both all around SQ as well as Outside noise attenuation. They are both what I would call gently ballanced reference studio cans. The Denons are however considered to be more "bassy" "fun" type cans.

No, none. Same headphone, different look.
With the K271 AKG is aiming at the professional studio market, with the K272 at the hifi market.

I listened to these in a local store earlier today. They were fairly nice sounding headphones with a very natural sound. Soundstage - to my young and non-developed hifi-ear - was sweet. It lacks some colour though, which I think is a trademark of AKG. Very comfortable phones though and even if semi-open sound isolation was very good! They leaked sound outside quite much though.

If you like bass, don't take the K271/272. for the rest they give a great, intimate sound.
