Yes i was refering to the studios; unfortunately I won't have the chance to hear the 240DS, I was just curious. :) Luckily I like most ice cream.

Enjoy! They have some very nice mids

I eq down the bass a bit on my Clip and that makes them more 'neutral'/balanced sounding

Sorry to be dragging this thread out of the grave, but I was wondering if there's any point in buying a pair of Sony MDR-7506 if I have the K240-DF and an amp to drive them?
Also, does anyone know when they stopped making the K240-DF model with the small 3.5mm jack?

Anyone on Headfi still enjoying their 240DFs?
Yes, I am. They've got a new lease of life since I got my Chord Mojo, which drives them beautifully. I often use them for checking the midrange of mixes I'm doing. I recently grab a used pair of K500s as well and they are an astonishingly beautiful listen!

They can be picky can to drive properly.  I recently bought a Rouge Audio Sphinx for my Speakers but it also has a headphone output.  Unfortunately it does not seem powerful enough for the K240DF or my K400 and requires the volume to be set almost to the point of clipping.  Both are still excellent cans and continue to bring me musical enjoyment!

I'm also looking for a portable amp able to drive the K240DF to decent levels.  I'm sure the Chord Mojo sounds great but I'm not a fan of it's looks and it's more costly than I'd like.

The main portable I'm considering is the Meridian Explorer2 which isn't too expensive, has a nice clean look and good specs.  I'd like to head if anyone else has had success pairing the DF with a portable.

Thanks!

For just an amp without a DAC, I use and would highly recommend the Cayin C5. It drives the DFs easily and sounds excellent. The bass boost switch is just what the DFs need and, in my case, gave them a new lease of life even before I got the Chord.

Regarding the Chord Mojo, I personally really like the design but even if I didn't, that would not sway me away in any way from a unit that sounds as good as it does.

...Sorry, to add to that, I used an HRT Microstreamer as the DAC with the C5 when I was going portable.

Sound pressure level is not the most important aspect.
Even an O2 can drive DF at low gain.

For better performance, I guess you may have a try on Venture Electronics Runabout 2.0 Balanced Edition.
Well, maybe a little bit bulky, but the setup is said to be portable.
Btw, you'll need an adapter for DF, for the output jack of this amp is 4pin XLR.

I just got these K240DF EP's as an xmas present to myself. I'm probably coming up on ten hours listening. I drive them with a Headroom Micro Amp as well as an Indeed G2 w/ Sovtek 12AU7. These have the older baffle that the early K240M's had as well. I do not find these to be bass light, however I cut my teeth as an audiophile/enthusiast on the K701, so I'm into that already. The highs and lows are a little rolled off however I find I agree with those who call the DF a genre chameleon. These depth and slam is appropriate when the recording calls for it. Speed and articulation are awesome. This is the least colored midrange I have ever experienced and I'm really enjoying it. I am however having a lot of those "I've never heard that before" experiences, however it's in relation to distortion that I suppose was missed or glossed over in the production process of some of the stuff I've been listening. Midrange = blessing, revealing = curse.

Is it you who's made that UK deal for 55 pounds?
Oh no....I thought that they'd be mine but I was too late.

Just kidding, folk. Glad to see they're sold to who really love them.
Enjoy your cans

I gave them to my brother like 3 years ago when I wasn't that much into headphones.
Last week he gave them back to me since he doesn't need them anymore.
Anyway, when I tried them again just for fun, man I was surprised.
I completely forgot/didn't know how good they sound.
They aren't colored in any sense.
Also not exciting in a good sense, since today every headphone sounds bright with lot of bass (this is already getting better though)
Anyway, one of my favorites next to my HD580.

I have the one without passive drivers.
Honestly, I didn't even know that Df's with passive drivers were made.
Would be interesting to listen to since the Sextett and the normal 600ohm k240 also sound different.
