I may pick a par of these from another head-fier, I have akg 26ps and truthfully I didn't like them right from the start the bass was overpowering and muddy to the point where mids and highs were drowning. I intend to use the 171 straight from a portable (iaudio X5) although I might be getting an amp. I am looking for a headphone that has a nice balanced soundstage, I listen to all types of music so I want a headphone that will do everything at least pretty well.
If not the 171, than what? I have er-6i and don't want iems and I have considered the new 81 DJ but as well.
I know there have been tons of posts regarding small portable closed headphones, sorry but I am calling upon the members once again.
Thanks for your time, timmins

From what I recall, wasn't the K171 supposed to be very uncomfortable? Anyway, it should be similar to the K271S in sound, at least the freq response as per Headroom looks that way. The HD25-SP should have a similar sonic signature, too (but reportedly not much of a soundstage).
