AKG K1000 on eBay - for a price

I've seen that picture before. I'm almost positive that that particular picture was used on an earlier eBay for a K1000.

I know that this may seem like a high price to pay, but IMHO in comparison with other offerings on the market (eg: STAX Omega IIs for much, much more) for an NOS version K1000, they are worth every penny!

Yeah, given what the K1000 offers, I wouldn't think that even $1500 would be out of the question in the future as a fair price.

all we need now is for Patrick82 to finish his k1000 mods and compare it against a HE90...then make the owner feel sorry for ever buying that thing. i'm sure the price of K1000 would inflate exponentially

Yes, the K1000 is often ranked as one of the best three headphones of all time - with the other headphones costing a multiple of the K1000

If something happened to mine, yes, I would pay that amount for another pair. They're still the best thing I've ever listened to, speakers or headphones. And compared to speakers, they're a bargain even at this price.

I just wish AKG would bring them back, or maybe come up with a K-2000 around $700-$800. They would own a big piece of the high-end market if they did that.

I too would pay that price if something happened to my pair. They're getting harder to find, and I'd much rather have a 10k-11k serial than an older version.

I don't think too many people here take him seriously

Theres no doubt that he is. I wish I jumped on a new pair from a Boston hifi store for $950 just as AKG announced they're not making them anymore. Most stores didn't sell them over MSRP.

I bought from that seller. The company that runs the place is great, amazing customer service and support. It did seem like a lot, but seriously only 6 months before they were selling for something like $800 bucks new, and then they discontinued them and all of them just disapeared, so I had to act fast before the prices REALLY got insane. I was already kicking myself for not buying them when I had a chance when they were still in production, and if the price rose higher I'd be even more desperate ... I wanted to have the K-1000 that bad!

I also don't really like buying used headphones, because I want to experience every change in sound due to upgrades, tweaks, etc. So that was seemingly the only place to find a new K-1000 with a later serial number (mine is #11,056).

I can't wait to really get into this setup with upgrades, I love the sound now, and I don't know how it could get better. But from all of the threads about upgrades for it, I know it can get insanely better than stock(patrick82 has shown me the way!)

I don't know if my memory is failing but i have this flashback that i saw some K1000 on ebay ending at 200$ back when i didn't know about their reputation, that was a couple of months ago... If i had known then, i'd have bought them, but then again i have no amp, no source, no nothing to drive them, eh.

But then they are very overrated IMHO. I'll take a pair of electrostatics for that price any given day.

That's what I thought, until I changed out the cabling and drove them with a decent amp - then they came alive.
