I got X-Can v8, Little Pinkie V3i and AKG K 701.

The AKG K 701's are top of the line, the thing is, they fit my head badly, and even though they are light-weight they make pain on top of my head after a few hours... I wonder going for the SEnnheiser 595HD, as the 650 is not nice on the head. Do you guys have anything to recommend?

How bad quality loss is it going from the 701 to the Senn 595HD ? The round configuration of headphonespeakers don't fit me, sennheisers make the cups a little more oval. but the hd595, so 'old'.

Btw, i might go to SS, so the headphones don't need to match the X-can v8...

Damn AKG not making a better fitting new 801.....

The leather is stiff and needs to break in like shoes.
You can do this by gently twisting and bending it. That solved the problem for me.

You'll probably need to spend 5 - 10 minutes on this. You should notice the band getting softer and more malleable.

Ball glove oil or a leather softener on the strap will help. The nubs have been a problem with some people. A piece of foam or another headband strap will do the trick.

Something that helped mine was bending them in the center until the nub softens up.

If you're having troubles with the 650's clamp, try stretching them out a bit at a time.

The 701's comfort can be imrpoved by putting something soft underneath the headband, like a sock or something.

I've got the HD-650's and I've recently found them a bit too much to wear as well. So, I completely understand your situation. I tried the Grado GS-1000 and could not find a way to make them comfortable for my head. Bummer, they sounded pretty amazing. I just couldn't make it work. Something to do with the design of the headphone band. My other headphone the Sony MDR-SA5000 are amazingly comfortable. Preferences aside, these are amazing headphones. I suspect they are as good as the 701's or the HD-650's no problem. IMHO, the SA-5000's are a currently one of the best headphones at it's price point. Comfortable and sounds clean, fast, and extremely dynamic.

You need to break the bands in. Here's what I did with my HD650:

Volleyball inflated just enough to create the correct diameter

Place ball in between earpieces

Leave overnight. Let it rest the next day. Do the same the following night, inflating the ball just a bit more. YMMV.

This worked for me. Hope it does for you, too.
