Which do you think is the better of them? I listen very much on rap music, so good bass is an plus.

If you have another suggestion on good headphones in that pricerange you can recomend it. But mainly I want one of AKG K-26 P or Koss Porta Pro.

Haven't heard the AKG's, but the Portapro's are great. You can also try the KSC-75, which has the same sound as the Portapros (uses same/similar drivers) and the KSC-75's go for $15-20, versus about $40-50 for the Portapros.

Wow, they sound that good? They have them at my local guitar center, but I was hesitant to try them out, since I hadn't heard them. Are they more of a PX100 or a PX200 sort of sound, or something new altogether?

Also, what styles of music did you listen to on them?

Check out my full run-down on the K26P here: http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=131228

Also FYI bangraman and a few others have gotten K26P's that sound very bloated in the bass (V700-like to him), so there might be a variance in the production runs, or perhaps they have changed the sound signature overall, I don't know. I do know the pair I got for my wife a month ago sounds great.

I-D: Just curious, what is your opinion of the headband design? To me, it is the weakness in the AKG K2xP line of portable headphones. Among other things, it results in the earpieces not being positioned flat against ear (at least for me). A little bending/twisting of the aluminum band has helped a bit, however.

Otherwise, I couldn't agree more with your impressions.

The strength of the porta pro is that its more portable both on and off your head. You can wad it up in your pocket or go jogging with them. You can wear them in a house or wear them with a mouse.

As it related to your K24's I'd have to agree, but for some reason, these K26's stay on a lot better. Perhaps it is because the earpieces are heavier, thus not allowing the tension of the headband make it naturally recoil as easily. I think the earpieces themselves also adhere to the head a bit better than the K24's flat pads.

Damn, finally decided to pull the trigger so I called the Guitar Center on 14th St yesterday and was told they had nine K26P's available. Went down there tonight to score and they couldn't find even one. Ended up going home empty handed, guess it just wasn't in the cards.

The search continues.......

I'm going to have to disagree. I think the portapros kill the k26p. The k26p is better than the px200, but it's nothing to write home about. I did find the bass to be a bit bloated, but that wasn't too much of a problem. The main problem was that the mids were weak, and rock music sounded very polite because guitars did not have any bite. I think the k26p is OK, but if isolation is not a factor (and the k26p doesn't isolate all that much anyway), I'd go with the portapros.

I think the PortaPro's with the Kramer5150 mod are great. Returning the PX 100's I bought on Labor Day because after four days of burn in they still fall short. Still haven't heard the K26P's so I can't compare the two.

There seems to be a variation between batches of K26P’s (old ones are better). I got the new ones and I can’t even begin compare them to the PortaPro’s. The bass quality of the PortaPro is way better, tighter, precise and warm. The K26P are okay if you have to have closed phones, I’m happy with the isolation, but that I don’t enjoy them nearly as much as the PortaPros. My advice would be to go with the PortaPro.
