HD=hard drive or High definition audio like Bluray?
Surround if you watch through a computer you often get with software players like power DVD. Also have their own "surround modes".

My K701 didn´t work at all for movies. I have hard time hearing the dialogue through it which really really annoyed me. HD 650 worked better for me in that regard. That is good with male voices surely.

I would recommend German Maestro 435S though. Great with voices and much better allrounders then the HD 650. Much more efficient than the HD 650. It´s better unamped then the 650 is on a Slee Solo for example.

If you have the money I have not found any headphone close to my Ultrasone Pro 900 for movie watching but that requires amplification as well as a decent source.

So 435S if you are on a budget definiatly.

You won't hear either of these at their best unless you use an amp. I own both, and I find the 650's are very dark-sounding to my ears. So I hear dialogue much more clearly with ther 702s.

The K-702's give a wonderful spaciousness via stereo sound. Also, when properly amped, they are marvelous for clarity... but they're just NOT going to work well without a well-matched amp.

So maybe you are in the market for a set of headphones that don't need amplication?

Are you planning on using the headphone out straight from your tv? Or do you have a processor with headphone out?

If you're going ampless I would recommend you Senn HD555/HD595 or Audio Technica AD700/AD900 , they work great without an amp and are very good for movies. The Senns have more and better bass but the soundstage of the Audio Technicas is better.

Since you will be going ampless...neither would work for you. I would try the Shure SRH840s. Now if you want to go with an amp, I would go with the HD650s (I own both the K701 and HD605 and slightly prefer the HD650).

I agree with MacedonianHero. Without an amp, stay away from both of these cans.

I would third the recommendation that you should leave the HD 650's or K702's if your not going to use a dedicated headphone amp... The HD 595 is a great choice as someone already pointed out... If you really wanted to, you can purchase the 650 or 702 ( a worthy investment

) and in the future invest in an headphone amp, though speaking about the sonic properties of these two cans, they are on the total opposite spectrum... I have heard both, and own the 701's, and in my opinion I would stick to the HD 650's for movie watching! Though If I had to pick which headphone I would choose with regards to music, I would pick the 701's... but its all a matter of taste... Best of luck

OK thanks ...I am happy with your assistance ...

Let's compare the performance :
( akg702 or HD 650 ) with amp. &&& Senn HD555/HD595 or Audio Technica AD700/AD900 [ that work without amp. ] ..

Does the result is the same ? Which one have a high performance ??

what do you prefer ??I am really confused ..

Thanks

I was choosing between headphones in this price range as well. I went with the K701 because I found it new for $250 USD. Pretty decent deal. My use will be for music though, and with the Asus Essence ST.

Anyone here have heard of a price drop on the retail price for brand new HD 650's?

I think the retail price is now 349.99$ now. So would that mean sale price would go lower?

Maybe it's the HD 800's fault...I hope so..yes I do hope so.
