Hi All, new to this place. Sorry if there are any pre-existing posts on this issue.

I am looking to get an AKG 701 (and my first amp), I know the 701 is a bit hard to drive. Searching around, and find out that X-CAN V3 maybe a good choice? Any other suggestions? What else do I need to get?

My source will be APE output via Audigy sound card. Maybe get a portable setup later.

I have both K701 and Mapletree Audio Design Ear+ Purist HD2. The MAD drives the K701 flawlessly. The AKG sounds wonderfull out of the canadian amp.
Another amp the do drives the K701 very well is the Ray Samuels Audio Hornet. Just bought one a couple of weeks ago. They combine perfectly. The Hornet is portable though, don't know exactly what you're looking for ...

Thanks for the reply blinx, mapletree is kinda too hard to get from sydney...and seems there is a long waiting queue?

Also look into the Heed CanAmp.
If you are looking to spend over $500.00 check out the HeadAmp GS-1 as well.

Just went to MAD and checked out, offering free ship during july. Looks like it is a good time to get a MAD!

Are you sure you don't want to buy either a used GS-1 or a used Heed CanAmp, Daltonlanny has both for sale, I'm sure he would do you right...

Other than those, I also believe the Mapletree is a sweet sounding amp with my k701s too

Tubes, my man. The K701s, like the Senns and the Beyer DT880s, just love tubes.

There is a great maxed out Millett Hybrid in the FS forum right now (MaloS selling). I posit that you won't do better for $300.

Well, at first I had my mind set on exchanging my GS-1 for a GS-X, but some unexpected auto repairs came up and kind of shattered my plans!
Guess I will have to wait, or just upgrade my GS-1 when the MOSFET modules become available.

I am enjoying the 701's with the Presonus Central Station and Bada PH12 with RCA Grey glass.
