the SA1k cost CAD299....that's like 300% more. the funny thing is....they never take in the SA5k....probably think that their overprice strat wouldn't work on those...i think they will cost CAD900 or more if they ever did.

i hate buying luxury stuff in Canada....it's too costly over here...I'd rather buy it from the states and let the CA stores dried up and die. Actually I'm thinking of moving to the states after im done studying

I guess we Canadians already know we have to pay too much for stuff when buying it in Canada.

But the AKG is still weird though.

The 601 costs 11% more than the US price
The 701 costs 41% more than the US price.

The K601 is $289 CAD which is quite a decent deal (comparable to the landed price after importing it from the USA)

The K701 is $515 CAD though, with MSRP supposedly over $600! That's a $225 difference. AKG is sure asking a lot more for the K701 if you are a Canadian shopper

This is not only in Canada. In Germany you pay for 601 like EUR 175 and 701 cost now EUR 285.

Well, that's still a hell of a deal compared to here - that works out to $393 CAD for the K701 at the current exchange rate.

You have got the point there. Belive me about 6 month from now, they will be like 601 EUR 150 and 701 EUR 250 standard

Um the AKG 701 is only $355CAD from Todd, why would paying $515CAD be a good deal?

It's risky. If they decide to open and inspect the package, and don't believe the value, they could withhold the package for weeks and assess it with whatever value they feel like. And if the package is not declared at full value, if the package is lost or damaged, you are out the difference.
Just something to keep in mind.

Theoretically, the AKG is about $300 USD +$20+exchange = $377 CAD + taxes (15% usually). So it's definitely the way to go for the K701

For the AKG 601, you might as well buy it from this place, the difference in price is close enough to not bother getting it across the border.

One piece of advice to you guys. If you have US friend he/she can ship this to you and you dont pay a penny. How, simple USPS. I did purchase some in US and have ask my friend to ship it to me. As an privet person you can get any package from US with value EUR 45 top without a TAX, thats the Dutch customs law. So the bodem line is if you use the good postage service with insurance value EUR 45 then you dont pay a thing. And nothing will happend with that, well it can happend always but if this worth the "risk"... But if you buy from an seller, they usualy charge you from insurance value, if other value not mention at all.
