i was informed to direct amp questions to this section of the forum. it looks as if my selection has narrowed to either the akg 271 studio headphone or beyerdynamic dt770 pro 80 ohm headphone.
i have read that when the akg 271s is coupled with a proper amp, the set can outperform the dt770. my question is this:

i have a budget of @$250. the headphone will cost @$150. this leaves @$100 left over. this would be the budget for the amp.
i would prefer the amp to be portable as it would be taken to and from school and home and walking around sometimes.
is it possible to couple the akg 271s with an amp within this budget that will outperform the dt770? can the dt770 be coupled with an amp capable of driving the headphone? are these headphones worth an amp - meaning will these headphones truly benefit from an amp?
