Aiwa HP-X223

Aiwa HP-CN6

They look quite different. The $20 price difference assumes the CN6es should sound better, but which do? I have a choice between the two right now, and MONEY DOES NOT MATTER!!! Which do you recommend for better sound?

I'm leaning towards the CN6es since they're a) not as fecking huge and b) noice cancelling proves to be interesting. Yet I'm leaning towards the 223s since they just look less wimpy overall and have a larger frequency range.

Thanks.

Lastly, if you're going to recommend a different pair of headphones, please at least answer this question along with the recommendation. Aiwa has been my top choice for quality in the below $60 range so far for years.

You know, Thasp, Aiwa isn't renowned for their headphones. As a matter of fact, Aiwa is now owned entirely by Sony. Thus, Aiwa (and Sony) headphones are likely to deliver mediocre to poor value, especially for the price that you'd pay for them.

The MDR-V300 and HP-X223 sound completely different from each other. I tried them both in the store, I've just yet to try the CN6es, they're not on display. The sony-aiwa ownership had me thinking too.

The CN6es look suspiciously like the MDR-V*00 series, now that'cha mention it. Way too much alike. Maybe sony got to those ones...

Though they (HP-X223 and MDR-V300) sound different, neither sounds good even at their price. The HP-X223 suffers from the "cheap closed headphone syndrome" - that is, their semi-closed earcups have way too much empty air space inside. This results in an undesirable echoey, tinny sound.

I'm going out to try the CN6es now..

I see what you mean on the other ones, I do notice that when I push them closer to my ears they sound quite different.

What would you recommend for that price range? I didn't want to pay more than $40 originally, so there's no way I can get $70 Grados, I don't know how Sennheiser is around that price either.
