Airplane volume control

Hello, I know this may have been discussed awhile back so I decided to make a new topic.

Anyway, has anyone plugged in their earphones into the airplane's entertainment system and suddenly get a heart attack when there is an announcement? Due to the sudden increase to the volume. Sometimes it gets so loud my ears go deaf momentarily.

I was wondering if anyone has a solution to this? Like an active volume control that limits the amount of current (or whatever the volume is related to).

Thank you for your response. However, if I have understood correctly, it only reduces the overall volume which makes the volume of the movie I am watching low as well.
Unless I have misunderstood how it works.

No you are correct. The attenuator will reduce the volume of everything including the movie you are watching.

the magic secret is to max out the volume level and then adjust with some in line attenuator for the movie. the captain might be king on his plane but the amp is still limited to it's own design and can't go much louder than the max.
a more advanced solution would be to go back to digital, apply some compressor and go back again out through a DAC+amp. not a simple solution and the input needs to be able to handle the max voltage without clipping. so personally I stuck with option 1.

Wow THANKS! That is simple yet brilliant. I assume that it works for you because I initially worried that the volume of the announcement is much louder than the max volume I apply on the entertainment system, so I guess not.
Could I get a recommendation for the attenuator though? I know UE has them but I'm not sure if you can adjust the volume on it.
