"AirDrives are healthier for your hearing by exceeding OSHA and House Ear Institute standards for all-day listening — with safer sound-pressure levels (SPL) than any competing earphones."

A headphone that can play at different volumes? What will they come up with next

A headphone with no sound at all. The safest headphone ever!

Until it's heard, what's to bash? Less than stellar products have (sometimes) been released by reputable companies. Is it so hard to imagine a good product from a little known co.? Besides, the Sharper Image doesn't usually market junk.

Looks just like an earbud that sits over your ear, I can't imagine they would sound very good. Plus the sound would easily be drowned out by any noise around it I'm sure. I guess that's the point, but if I'm listening to music I want to listen to music, not just add to the background noise.

Ha Ha HA HA! I got a great laugh from your post! Sharper Image is exactly the kind of company that does market junk. Only junk disguised to fool the average Joe into thinking that it is all cutting edge stuff. You could go there and get any one of 50 garbage quality personal stereo/clock radio type items or an air purifier that actually makes you air worse (read about ozone emission from those jokes - just google it) or maybe some jacked up stupid gadget that was made in China for a song. Also, I think they were the first to offer the Bose Wave Radio for retail sale.

yeah, sharper image is uhh.. well- when i saw the thread title, i sincerely related what these would be like to bose.. i could see bose headphones being in sharper image.. same kind of customers.. same schtick in marketing / image..

i'm pretty sure this is comparable to bose having released another product :)

Yeah, they suck. Just like the K1000's.

I'm glad I humoured you. The keyword is "usually". What I meant was that they market a higher caliber of "junk". So... in retrospect I might generally agree with you BUT... my bottom line was (in reality) not about the Sharper Image per say, but the product in question. I.E., What's to bash until it's actually heard? And No, I've no intention of even trying it.

Regarding products that are made in China for a song... the same used to said about products made in Japan. Look at them now. And while the USA is still a technological and military superpower... we've already given away our economic superpower status. Any and all of these cheap sh%t made in China products would cost about 4X more if made in the USA. Why is that?

Completely different. The K1000s are earspeakers, hence they need a very powerful amp to drive, obviously speakers also sit further away from your ears, but can't be driven without some sort of amplification, be it internal for self-powered or not. These on the other hand use drivers that are clearly similar to headphones, meant to be run straight out a iPod or something of the like. Ever tried holding a pair of earbuds away from your ears? Hopefully they did better than just to leave it like that, but I have absolutely no faith that they did much better. Plus K1000s do provide no isolation, if you could take them out in public like these are designed to be used as see if they sound so good then.

The ridiculous claims Sharper Image made are fair game. And although I don't fully support trashing a product you have no experience with, humans have an incredible capability to speculate using knowledge they have gained in the past

Agreed! Sharper Image (advertising) claims are fair game. So what. Thalheimer's marketing genius has served him well and made him wealthy. Again so what. So... we're agreed, trashing a product while having no experience of it make little sense. OK. Let me rephrase your last sentence; Humans have an incredible capability to learn and grow, using knowledge they have gained in the past. Can we agree on this?

Yes, well phrased. I'm going to assume your first post was more of a preemptive strike against the bashers.

I think you summarized my opinion of Sharper Image perfectly: 'What I meant was that they market a higher caliber of "junk" "'.

Yes, absolutely! It was only a preemptive strike against the bashers, and really nothing more. And 2X agreed on the higher caliber of what is still possibly "junk", until it's withstood the higher test of personal experience.

Regards,!!!
