Well, we Finns do hold championships in wife carrying, gnat killing, swamp soccer, and other as dumb sounding events. Basically it's just for having fun and half-hearted contesting (which we love). The whole country is full of such events during summer. I guess it atracts tourists to the smaller towns and villages. Mostly they are held alongside some proper main event too.

Besides Americans and other foreigners seem to buy it. We get some contestants to the biggest events from all over the world. I think this year's American air guitar contestant even got some celebrity in the US. Wasn't he in the Conan O'Brien show?
