A couple of days ago, I was just moving into my new communal dwelling, all my stuff was still in packages except for the most essential things. I had just set up my audio gear next to my bed when my new room mate walked in. After a short discussion on how expensive the McDonalds menu is in Zurich (8 Euros, which is almost $10) he asked me why I had two CD players. I told him that one box was a cd player and the other one was a headphone amp. Yeah right, headphone amp.
In any case, I told him to grab one or two of his favourite CDs to meet me in my room again. He came back with Miles Davis Kind of Blue and Fugees The Score. First up was Miles. He put on the headphones and started listening. After a merely five seconds or so: "I'm hearing some white noise in the background. There never used to be background noise on this track.” I told him that the noise was on the recording, which it really is.
"Let's change the CD then."
Next up was Wyclef and his gang. I changed the CD as he put on the headphones.
"Which track?"
"Track Three. Ready or Not.".

You know, sometimes, there are those small things that can make this hobby so much fun. One of them would be the big wide grin on the face of your room mate rediscovering his favourite recording - priceless.
Some things you can't buy..

really cool.

I remember when I had my friend listen to rush through my ppa->cd3k combo. He normally isn't the type to really get in to music, but he just stood there the whole time with a huge smile, eyes closed, and rocked to the whole song. It is always fun to share.

Yeah, sharing is great and it's great to see people enjoying the music.

Sometimes they tell me that want to have the exact setup until I tell them how much I paid for it. Well, one friend of mine wasn't bothered by this and eventually went for a RS-1 setup which he is still enjoying very much.

And most people in audio love what they are doing. Going to an audio store is unlike any other store you can go to. These people there like to show their stuff.

I love this hobby.
