I should have posted a query earlier, but I was wondering if any other Head-Fier's were at the Aimee Mann concert at the Beacon Theatre in NYC last night?

She was awesome (if a bit of a "trash" mouth)! Whether she was singing & playing an acoustic guitar by herself, or jamming with her whole band, she rocked the house. While the Beacon is not as intimate setting as I'd like to see her in, her frequent banter with the audience was fairly entertaining and made the atmosphere more intimate & relaxed. At one point, approximately 2/3's thru her main set, there was a lull in the playing. During the silence audience members started shouting requests for her to play. Some idiot shouted "Voices Carry!", to which she quickly replied "Dude, you might as well shout out 'Freebyrd'!"

The audience, whose age seemed to lean toward my middle-aged status (unusual these days

), was appreciative yet fairly sedate during most of the concert. But at the end of her set, we rose up and managed to cajole her into playing two encores for a total of 40 minutes additional! In all, a very enjoyable evening. If she comes to your area, catch her. If you haven't heard her latest "Lost in Space", get it.

'Nuff said.

definately seconded! I just had to pick it after all the praise in the best-of-2002 thread, and it rocks! it'd be pretty cool to see her live once, sounds like it was a great show

Hey, if you get a chance to exchange dialogue with her, ask her if she cooked the fish in her jacket pocket from her last tour. She'll get a kick out of that one.

Not that that is likely to happen, but I'll try to remember

.

If you talk to her, ask her why her soundman likes to be spanked!

Cheers!

If you liked the 'Magnolia' soundtrack, you will love 'Lost in Space'. More of the same and better. The recording quality is excellent too.

Her performance was great. I have her album "Lost in Space' as well. Listened to it this morning. She really is talented. Thanks for the post.

Any New Yorkers catch either of Aimee's shows at Irving Plaza last night (Sunday) or tonight?

I just got back from tonight's very cool concert. Alot of different songs and arrangements from the show at the Beacon in December. New lead guitarist too. Aimee amazes me how well she can go from soft, pensive, acoustic solos, to full-band rock & roll. I love her body language when she rocks out. And that voice - oooh nice.

She even ended the concert (two encores again!) with her covering "Sweet Home Alabama" as her next-to-last song. Apparently that was her response to so many "Freebyrd" requests. It totally rocked the house!

Anybody else go?
