After burn-in Sony V6 is no longer bright, anyone else experience this?

When I received the Sony V6 a few days ago I found them to be on the bright side--their treble seem accentuated and songs with sustained high frequency energy like the Oasis tune "Morning Glory", with its wailing guitars, made me cringed in pain. But after 30+ hours of burn-in I find they no longer sound bright at all--actually they sound quite neutral (except for the boosted bass, which isn't apparent on all sources) and I no longer cringe when I listen to music with a lot of energy in the treble. Is this normal? Could it be that those who found the V6 bright didn't burn them in long enough? I'm just wondering because these cans have a reputation for being bright, but, now to my ears they sound anything but.

P.S. And in case your wondering I didn't listen to the V6 once between my first audition of them (upon taking them out of the box) and completing 30+ hours of burn-in on them--so I doubt that I have just adapted to their sound. I must say, though, that I'm currently quite infatuated with their sound. This could be love...

i couldn't stand them when i first got them. in my case i still think it was more a burn in of the ears than the headphones though. but i could be wrong. doesn't really matter. i love them now. (still think they're bright though)

Interesting. I didn't really listen to my pair much before burn-in, and I certainly find them bright now. Not exactly painfully bright, but too bright for classical--the high violin notes, in particular, are just too pronounced for me.

But for rock/techno kinds of things, especially from a non-amped source, I like 'em just fine.

I like the V6's much, but I'm on my second pair and they've always been a bit too bright.

I'm currently in the process of procuring a pair of V6's/7506's. Just curious, is it possible to EQ them to take the edge off?

I tried that with the HD280's i bought because it seems there's a treble-y edge to everything, the bass, mid-bass(of which there is very little anyway), etc.. But, it seems to kind of muffle everything instead of taking the edge off. I dunno, I didn't have the most precise EQ(just simple +/- 2db increments of treble or bass) in the world.

I have an old Yamaha 10-band equalizer, and yes, you can really spruce up the sound of V6s with EQ. I think because the mids and treble just go up, up, up, up, on the V6s, a simple reducing of a treble control by 2 or 4 db might well be helpful. The bass you can't really help with a simple tone control, because the low bass is huge and the mid-bass is lean -- you'd need more complex EQ to smooth it out.

The HD280's might not be so easy to EQ in the treble because they seem to even out in the upper mids and low treble, and then take off in the mid-to-upper treble. So if you turn down a simple treble tone control, you're going to muffle the mids at the same time you're taking down the highs. That's my best guess anyway.

i dont mind my 7506 brightness, the bright side is the mid high but the trebele isnt as smooth and open as my trusty 270S (the hi treble of 7506 sometime cant handle very high treble and begining to distort just alittle bit)... but i can live with it...

its the bass thats i think too much for me, but in my music work sometimes i need cans with extended low to check up the bass.

i dont know why but the sound of 7506 is kind of giving too much presure to my 'head" (the sound... not the clamp) i have many closed studio cans but the 7506 is still not as "easy on your ears" like others... still hope i can get used too it.

I know you said it's the sound and not the clamp, and the low bass can make you feel pressure in the eardrums a little, but you might want to try the Beyer pads anyway, they increase the comfort quite a bit.

Man, if you think the 280's are bright, the v6's will rip your ears off

Well, I was hoping that I had stumbled upon a V6 that had realized the errors of its ways and had decided to transend its own brightness--but guess what guys, I just realized it was my sources! Via my Revolution soundcard playing music through Winamp with Mad plug-in and through my D-220 discman (oldschool, I love it) the sound of the V6 is not bright, not in the least. But through Foobar 2000 (again via the Revolution soundcard) playing the same music--Ouch! the V6 definately is bright, and it's rather annoying. Darn system synergy, I knew it would rune me! (modification of a Simpson's quote)

But on the plus side I have realized how good of a player Foobar is. I always found Winamp along with the Mad plug-in to sound better than default Foobar but now after going into the options menu and doing some tweaking Foobar stomps Winamp hardcore--in comparision Winamp sounds compressed and processed. I'll have to see what I think about the V6 over the next few days but now I'm thinking dang boooooyyyy(!), these things really are bright.
