I've burnt in my AE-2 for 100+ hours which I "think" should be sufficient. Paired with my iMod, I compared it to my other dap without an external amp, and the sound is quite close, with the amped iMod having just a touch more bass, slightly different presentation and other minor things. I wouldn't dare say the other dap is a proper enough source, but I felt that the iMod + amp, or any amped source, should blow me away in terms of soundstage, bass response etc, compared to a dap's HP out.

Am I just not getting the best synergy with the amp (if this is the case would the RSA line be better)? Or are both sources just not good enough to make a difference for a monster like the 650s?

When I listened to two different AE-2's at the meet it sounded like two different amps. One had massive bass and more vocal clarity while the other one sounded a bit dry. I'd burn it in for another 300 hours and see what you hear.
