Hello everyone,

I am from Montreal (Canada) and I am considering to buy a Sennheiser HD600 or HD650, plus a Pro-Ject head amp. I listen mostly to classical music (baroque small ensembles, piano music, big symphony orchestras), popular female vocals and some tango intrumentals.

I have listened carefully to the <HD600+ProJect head amp> combo and like it, but I did not have the opportunity to listen to the HD650.

Could you tell me which model (HD600 or HD650) is better suited to my musical tastes as outlined above ?

The Pro-Ject head amp I have listened to is the Head Box SE model, with two headphones inputs and separate volume controls. What is your opinion on this head amp model ? Would you suggest any better alternative, like some Little-Dot models which seem to be very well rated on this forum ?

Thank you in advance for your advice and suggestion.

I used a Pro-Ject amp for a couple of years.

I'm not sure if I would recommend it. Yes it sounds reasonably good and will drive most headphones to very high volume but it's nothing spectacular.

Opening it up is rather disappointing. The op-amps are pretty ho-hum (can't remember the exact model) and the pots and headphone sockets are obvious cheapies.

I built an amp for about 1/4 the cost of the Pro-Ject (High voltage and current based on a bunch of OPA2134's) that sounds considerably better than the Pro-Ject.
