My second pair of JVC FX66s broke last week and the iBuds I use as a temporary replacement are driving me insane.

I am therefore looking for IEMs under 200$ (CAD, taxes and shipping included) that would last several years. Build quality is a factor. I take care of my earphones and if a usable case would be included (the FX66s lacked one), all the better.

As for sound, I need something that's polyvalent. I listen to everything from rock to classical music - nothing too bassy, though. Vocals are important, as is soundstage. It needs to a major improvement over the FX66s and Kramer-modded FX33s.

My source material will be my computer (MacBook), a first-gen iPod Touch (I know, I know, it came with the laptop) and a Sony S616, which will soon be upgraded to the latest generation. Thanks in advance!

The build quality looks rather shabby.

EDIT: but it's also quite cheap. Is pairing it with a low-end amp worth it?

It's pretty good build, solid, but I keep them in an used altoid can when they're not in use, but they are solid despite their look. When you mean low-end amp, what do you mean? The RE0 pairs up nicely with the ibasso T4, if you want additional bass the Fiio E5 isn't a bad route either. If you can wait, the new Fiio E7 and the pico silm looks good.

Any others? Thanks so far - I'm now considering the RE0 paired with a Fiio E5 and maybe a Fiio E7 when they come out for desktop listening. Would I also need new tips? I'm looking for maximum isolation.

Hmm, I may have to dedicate less money to the cause, so I'm now also considering the PL50s. Do they sound better amped (more warmth, maybe?) Should I replace the tips?

I love my Meelectronics M6. They blow my hundred-dollar Ultimate Ears 3s out of the water. There is no way you would ever know listening to these that they are $40 shipped. I'm a convert.

Search is your friend. You're not the first, or the 50th person to ask about $200 recommendations.
