Hey Everyone,
Long time (almost 10+ year) lurker here, but (finally) my first post!
Head-Fi introduced me to the world of audiophilia with the Brainwavz M2 in 2010 (long dead now) and then towards the Audio-Technica M50 (still serving me very well). Very recently I decided to invest in the Bowers & Wilkins P5 Wireless (I need quality cans for travel, which I have to a LOT thanks to my job in consulting).
I've been curious about Grados for 10+ years, but always thought that they would be too treble hot for my taste, as I've always loved laid back earphones/headphones with lush/liquid mids. After reading about the changes in the third gen 'e-series', I finally decided to 'evaluate' the SR-325e via the Amazon route. My first impressions mirror most of others who first try Grados, which was, WOW! I love my M50 and B&W P5 Wireless, but the SR-325e have opened my ears to the 'Grado sound' which I have very much come to cherish.
I was initially planning to return the Grados give that they aren't the most practical headphones for me (given that I'm on the road Mon-Thu), but I simply cannot imagine listening to Rock, Jazz and Indie the same way again after knowing how its so amazing on the Grados. This brings me to three big questions, and I'm looking to fellow Head-Fi-ers for help.
I've read in multiple reviews and comments that the SR-225e are very very similar to the SR-325e sonically, and the major difference between the two is the more premium metal housing and better headband on the SR-325e. Is this true? I ask because I was planning to trade my existing 325e for the 225e to save those $95.
I've also read that the SR-325e are more treble-happy because of the metal housing and have more of a bass slam than the SR-225e. Can any of you that have listened to both confirm these observations? While I absolutely love the bass on the 325e (and wouldn't want to lose it), the highs get a bit too much for my listening pleasure sometimes.
Finally, what's the verdict on the Alessandro MS-2e? How do these compare to the 225e/325e? I've read that the MS-2e are based on the 325e and have rolled off highs for easier listening. Any insight would be appreciated here!
Chicagoans, is there any place where I could audition all 3? I'm in the downtown area, but could make the trip to the suburbs if motivated enough
In terms of sources,
Music is MP3(256VBR/320) and Spotify HQ on either of my ThinkPads
