Hi there,
For Christmas I was thinking about giving a nice present to... myself! But, I need some advice.
I want to buy a headphone, the AKG K 601 most likely. Although I am a little scared that the vocals are not enough "in your ears", maybe a bit distant. The mid in general is pretty warm what I liked a lot!
Grado is warmer but it was also more aggressive in my opinion, and besides that it doesn't fit me well.
The Audio Technica are so freakin' comfortable BUT the AD900 was too much air (light) for me, and the A900 is actually a bit too much when it comes down to bass (and less sparkling, what I really like) and I don't really feel like buying closed headphones cause of the heat (and lesser soundstage of course). The A900Ti would be better, but above budget (and hard to find!).
Maybe a K 242 HD is also an option, semi-open.
At this moment I use a firewire interface from Behringer: the FCA202. :S
How would a K-601 hold up against an Audio Technica A900 with my current FCA202? And a K-242 HD?
In about 6 months I would be able to buy me something like an iBasso D10. Then again; how would a K-601, with the iBasso D10 (or sth equal desktop), hold up against an Audio Technica A900 on my current fca202?
To give you guys an idea of my musical preferences:
65%: Coldplay, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Dire Straits, Eric Clapton, Goo Goo Dolls, James Morrison, Jamie Cullum, Kings of Leon, Little River Band, Pink Floyd, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Snow Patrol.
25%: Armand van Helden, Chemical Brothers, Gare Du Nord, Room Eleven, and more towards dance, house and even techno.
5%: Hiphop
5%: Classical
Thanks in advance for your advice!
PS: Oh and yes, pardon my n00bism.
PS2: some prices for what I could buy them (incl shipping) K242HD: 175USD, K601: 235 USD, A900 somewhat around 250-260 USD I guess.
