For a while now, I've been using Creative Ep-630s...and they're starting to crackle and die.

I use an iPod 6G and I'm looking for a decent pair of IEMS < $200 AUD or ~$150 USD

So far I have found:

Head-Direct RE1
Head-Direct RE2
SoundMagic PL-30+FiiO E5
Westone UM1
Audio-Technica ATH-CK7
Bose (Aaargh!) Bass Buds?
Ultimate Ears Super Fi. 5
Apple In-Ears?
Shure SE 110?

I'm using a pair of Audio Technica AD700s at home with a discman, so I need something good on the way to school.

I also wear glasses with thick stems (the funky fcuk ones) so I'd like to know whether over-the-ear 'phones are appropriate...I've tried the KSC-75 and the fit was fairly awkward.

Thanks.

One of the best iems for classical music is the etymotic line. I have the ER6i ($70) and really enjoy classical on them. It has a clear, analytical sound that has actually led me to a buying kick with classical music. Alot of people swear by the ER4p ($170) as well, a step above the ER6i but also out of my budget. I think the Etymotic line gets more recommendations for classical on this board than any other.

$70!! Woah, I didn't know they could be had for THAT cheap...eBay AUS sells them for about $150 =]

How would the ER6i compare with say, Westone UM1?

i have read on a australian company they sell ety few times more expensive than their US prices...

er4p or s were selling around 500 or something in AUS. (170usd in us.)

er6i gets my vote though

Also check out what the Ety HF5 sell for in AUS. I have only compared them to my iM616, but I think they are closer to the ER-4p then the 6i.

Wow. That ety price in Austrialia is messed up.
But yea, the Etys are the way to go. Though the er4p are out of your price range. The HF5 when amazon had the deal was good, but I think you may have to settle for an imported pair of er6i. (no amp needed unless you use the er4s.)

over the ear should be fine, none of these cables are thick, and etys can be worn straight down.

and needmoretoys, I think you meant iM716.

No, I meant iM616. I bought the HF5 to replace the iM616. Actually, I still intend to keep the 616 and use it too. I use foam tips on the HF5 and small triple flange on the 616 for when I want ones that I can remove and reinsert quickly. I also have the iM716, but those need an amp, while the iM616 and HF5 don't.

interesting.

are you saying that without an amp the im616 sounds better than than the im716?
I always thought the im716/ep730 were the only ones of those lines worth owning, and that the im616 and im716 are the same except with different impedances.
