Uhh... I'm going to be amping my KSC!

Soo..I'm guessing just add 75ohm adapter and I'll be alright?

I used H5 to amp the HD595 when I have it.

Agreed, the W5000 is significantly better IMHO.

If you can stand its weird midrange suckout

Guess that's why there will always be different camps of fans: even with different configs and amps...not everyone is going to gravitate towards the same headphone.

I guess select few cases Dave, the ones that are using w5000 can stand it =] I think its partly the property of the ear, because I am aware of the midrange effect, but it works very beneficially to my ears xD

yes...I think it might be the same as the infamous "veil" in Sennheiser headphones. The upper midrange recession of the Senns make them sound more like loudspeakers to me....while AT was probably doing the same thing for the W5000, my set of ears just hear a suck out. To each his own! xD

I'd think the emphasized upper midrange of the W5000 would put more people off personally, but yes, the HD595 is all about midrange. The W5000s aren't the right can for me but to me they comfortably outdo the HD595 in most ways in my opinion.

Another thumbs up for tubes with the 595. The only thing I enjoy it out of is my homemade Millet, but man do I enjoy it. Bass presence and impact are fantastic, and the rest of the audible spectrum (minus the slight grain inherent in the phone - which I kind of like) is equally adept. I've tried a lot of a headphones, and the 595 with a tube amp (and good source) has kept me away from these forums for a long, long time.

*edited for grammar

I didin't hear an emphasized upper midrange....it was more of a recession right in the midrange. That gave the W5000 bass and sparkly treble, but not as much detail as I'd like. Maybe with the right source/amp it would be different....just as the HD595 though

Noticed you were online and thought I'd take a chance on an opinion from someone who has the 595s. (Hope I'm not stepping on toes)
I have the 555s and have had mixed responses about upgrading to the 595s for twice he price. I have the 555s on a thirty day trial and can still upgrade to the 595s for an addition $100 (American). I'm going to th meet in Toronto on the 7th to "hear what I can hear" but that's past the 30 day exchange period. Are the 595s twice as good as the 555s or are we at the point of diminishing returns here? What do you think? The 555s cost $100 American and I am thinking that as I got a good deal on tem it might be wiser to wait and maybe sell them at the meet (or elsewhere) for $100 and get what I like better for more. Any thoughts? Thanks alot for any input, Tony

Do you like the 555? Is there anything you would like to get more from them? I just want to ask this question directly before I answer you. If you can IM/MSN me right now or PM me, go ahead. I do not own hd595, I owned it for 2 years and done alot of stuff with it so I think I can answer firmly.

Many Japanese headphones put a little emphasis on the upper midrange in the region of female vocals specifically because many buyers tend to listen to a lot of J-Pop on them. I tried the same with the W5000 since I do have a small collection of J-Pop around.

To me the W5000s definitely fitted that pattern. I found the detail better than on the HD595 but maybe it comes down to the amp like you say.

I guess the question is do you like the HD555? If you find yourself always enjoying them and just getting lost in the music while listening to them then it's hard to argue that you should upgrade. Personally I do think the HD595 driven well is twice as good as the HD555 but there's taste involved here, some people seem to think there's not much difference at all. Personally I don't think diminishing returns really kicks in till higher up the chain but everyone's ears are different.

If on the other hand you don't like the HD555 then maybe you do want to upgrade. The question would then become what part of the sound don't you like about the HD555? The HD595 shares many of the same core sound characteristics so may or may not be an upgrade depending on your preferences.

Frankly the reason I kinda asked first, it might be a better idea for him to get an hd600 for example.

Yes, I didn't see your post until after I made mine. I think a lot of people look to the HD595 as the natural HD555 upgrade but I think that's about the point where people really need to start thinking about an amp. With that factored in a whole world of cans opens up and the HD595 isn't necessarily the place to start.
