Hey Guys:

Is there anything that will allow me to add a subwoofer to a pair of active monitors? usually on the big amps/receiver they have a (sub) preout.

oh, and what pair of active monitors would you recommend?

thx

Edit: Perhaps I should have said that I have an existing subwoofer already that takes signal from a pre-out from an av receiver that I have.

however, I would like to hook it up getting a signal from a pc and with 2 active speakers so that I dont' need a power amplifier.

The Onix X-Sub + Audioengine A5's. I had this setup for about a year, and it was outstanding. The X-Sub was made by AV123, but has since been discontinued. It tends to be difficult to find used, but you might get lucky. The Audioengine A5's can be purchased directly from Audioengine or a variety of online retailers. They pop up used fairly regularly. No receiver is needed in this setup, which is why I used it for my PC.

As it so happens, I'm selling both myself.

I'm trying to free up more cash for my headphone rig.

I assume the sub takes low level RCA inputs/outputs and has a crossover built in (all good subs do)?

If so all you need to do is take RCA outs from your source run them in to the sub, then run the outs from the sub into your monitors.

if his sub is like i think it is, it only takes a mono signal, but there are definitely a lot of subs like you're thinking of that are designed exactly for the purpose that he wants. you can add it in later easily to a pair of active monitors.
