Oops. Sorry for the long title. Had recently starting thinking seriously about what headphone I should go for. Yes, I have indeed started a thread on this, but with different headphones (and without a polling option).

Would really appreciate if I can get a general consensus on this.
I listen to some jazz, classical (very little though) and *gasp* pop-rock.
Yes, I do like a wide soundstage, but it really seems to me that a soundstage is not really a primary consideration, mainly because it's more of good imaging that I prefer. I do like vocals. Bass slam would be nice, but I would rather sacrifice it for a good mid range (bass extension, on the other hand, would be good, especially for the double basses in the orchestra pieces).

I would be using this with a Sony SCD CE595 (seems to be rather highly recommended for its price range). Almost everything will cost more over here though. The CE595 would be around USD150 (including shipping), and the K501 (which seems rather appealing) would cost more than USD99.

I'm willing to spend USD200 on the headphones (and included the K601 just to see how it fairs against the rest).
Thanks so much.

You will not get a consensus on this. This is all personal preference. Listen to as many of them as you can and get the one or two that fit the range of sound that lets you enjoy your music.

Go to as many meets as much and listen if you can't acquire them yourself or hear them at some store.

Do you want a closed or open phone or does it matter.

I enjoy the AT sound. If you want open try the AD900 otherwise do the A900 then. That is only if you find that this sound is yours as well. To me the AT sound is somewhat of a mix between the Grado and Senn house sounds. Even on opinion this a consensus will not be found.

The K601 would be my second choice and Headroom has these often on their Blue pages. These are simply returns where someone did not like them as much as they thought they might. Oh the DT601 could be my first choice if I wanted an open headphone.

edit: DT601 to k601

Oops. There seems to be a double post. The poll is over at the other thread.

EDIT: Will definitely try them out. Had once considered the A900, but some have warned about it getting really warm (which I can't really tolerate)
