I have a Headsave Home-Vibe and a Go-Vibe, both with AD8620AR opamps. I love the sound of the 8620 at around 9v... it seems perfect there -- delicate, warm and detailed. This morning I tried some different voltages (15v and 24v) with the home-vibe... IMO, at higher voltages the chip becomes progressively more aggressive, even harsh. Midrange dries up also. What sounded beautiful at 9v is pretty ugly at 24v.

IMO, the Vibe amps are good examples of the opamp's sound since it is unbuffered. Anyone else have any observations on the effect of different voltages with AD8620?

P.S. I know this stuff is entirely subjective, but this still seems to be the best forum for it (?).

Well, in general, all opamps pretty much sound different at different voltage levels. So it's not psychological at all. Usually the higher the voltages, the better the sound. Maybe what you're hearing is the bad source.
