The 'square' pin (top side of the adaptor) denotes pin 1 of the completed assembly.

I wonder if adding a bit solder to the press pins would be benefical? They are basically unsoldered connections, no?

The pins are put in by machine under tremendous pressure and make good contact. I would not try to put solder drops on the pins as it is unnecessary and may screw up the adapter.

Being somewhat anal, I have been soldering the press pins without destroying any adaptors...yet. (Fingers crossed)

I've done that before also... but do not find any difference either way. I am familiar with the pressing procedure Morsel mentions, and have no doubt that the mechanical fit is probably more conductive than any solder joint. Not that adding solder would make it worse... just not better. All IMHO, of course!

Heating the pins is not a good plan. The thermal expansion and contraction may damage the press fit or soften the surrounding anchorage.

Just a word...

I have had to add a tab of solder to when addingcapacitor decoupling and/or current loading.

So far I have had no problems.

Have had problems with breaking pins due to occasional incompetence.
